Japan Comics

In August of 2023 I moved from the US to Japan to be an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) as part of the JET Programme.

Arguably it was a lifelong dream to be an English teacher as part of JET, but as a half-Japanese person from Connecticut, I just wanted the opportunity to go to, live in and be a part of a local community in Japan. JET was just the way to do that.

Despite being Japanese, it is my first time in Japan, exploring Japanese culture, and a language I didn’t get the opportunity to grow up speaking.

I live in the rural countryside of Japan, surrounded by mountains and bordered by the ocean. These comics are snippets of my time so far, and explore my Japanese identity, ideas of home, the humor of living as a foreigner in a foreign country, and more.
